Merrion Square

Merrion Square is the largest Georgian square in the city and is surrounded by original Georgian Buildings. These are distinguished by the simplicity and elegance of their exteriors. The beautiful Merrion Square Park is open to the public.

Number 29

On the corner of Fitzwilliam Street and Mount Street you'll find Number 29. Built in 1794, this former home of a wine merchant's widow has been lovingly restored in every detail to depict a middle class Georgian household. Maintained by the National Museum, No. 29 is well worth a visit.

National Gallery - Merrion Square West

The National Gallery on Merrion Square West houses over 7,000 paintings and drawings as well as many impressive pieces of sculpture. Hugh Lane gave twenty-one pictures to the Gallery during his time as curator.
For the month of January only the National Gallery presents two outstanding exhibitions:
Stars and Southern Lights: The Golden Age of Finnish Art 1870-1920 Tickets: 7 Euro; 4 Euro
The annual exhibition of Turner's watercolours from Vaughan Bequest Turner: A Light in the Darkness (On show in the Print Gallery, for January only, free admission)
