Stop 16 - Heuston Rail Station
Heuston Rail Station - St. John's Road
Heuston Station was built in the 1840's during what has been described as the golden age of Irish railway development. It was the showpiece of the Great Southern and Western railways which had just amalgamated. Trains to the south and west operate from here. It is the principal and busiest terminus for Intercity rail services with an annual passenger throughput in excess of four million. Originally called Kingsbridge, it was renamed Heuston Station in 1966 to commemorate Sean Heuston, another Irish patriot.
